On April 27, 2026, the Ascension Banchensky Monastery reported that employees of the Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) had detained the monastery's dean — Archimandrite Serhiy.

According to the monastery, the clergyman is a legal guardian of children with disabilities who are cared for by the monastery.

Following the news of the detention, more than a hundred believers gathered outside the TRC building in Chernivtsi demanding the release of the monastery's monk.

On the same day, Archimandrite Serhiy was released.
